Get Rid of Hernia

Incisional hernia is a type of hernia caused due to an incompletely healed surgical wound. Since median incisions in the abdomen are frequent for all types of abdominal surgeries, ventral incisional hernias are often also classified as ventral hernias due to their usual location. Not all ventral hernias are from incisions and some may be caused by other trauma or congenital problems.

Clinically, incisional hernias are present as a bulge or protrusion near the area of a surgical incision. Virtually any prior abdominal operation can develop an incisional hernia at the scar area. The surgeries include large abdominal procedures such as intestinal or vascular surgery and small incisions such as appendix removal. While this type of hernia can occur at any incision, they tend to occur more commonly along a straight line from the xiphoid of the sternum straight down to the pubis, and are more complex in these regions. Hernias present in this area have a high rate of recurrence if repaired. For this reason, it is especially advised that these be repaired via a tension free repair method using a synthetic mesh.
Traditional open repair of incisional hernias can be very difficult and complicated. Laparoscopic incisional hernia repair is the new method of surgery for this condition. This operation is performed using different surgical microscopes and specialized instruments. The surgical mesh is placed into the abdomen underneath the abdominal muscles through small incisions towards the side of the hernia. In this manner, the weakened tissue of the original hernia can never be re-incised to perform the repair and one can minimize the potential for wound complications such as infections. Laparoscopic repair has been found to be safe and a more resilient repair than open incisional hernia repair.
Hernia Management Center is one of the famous centers in Chennai that deals with almost all types of hernia.

  1. Hernia operation are one of the commonest operations &laparoscopic surgery has brought revolution to this disease. Bilateral inguinal hernia , unilateral inguinal hernia, recurrent hernia, large hernia in the inguinal region and femoral region are very well tackled by this approach of keyhole surgery. One of the most important type of hernia are the #incisional hernia & ventral hernias that happens in the abdominal wall which occurs postoperatively. They are conventionally done by open surgery but it poses lot of wound related complications like wound infections, pain, recurrent hernia, flap necroses, blacking of the skin & bad scar. All these complications can be avoided if one does laparoscopic repair .Normally the IPOM & IPOM PLUS are the the two approaches which are used for incisional hernias . Meshes used in IPOM & IPOM PLUS are very expensive and can be done away with modern way treatment of abdominal wall reconstruction know as AWR. Different approaches are Tep ie extra peritoneal approach and eTAP ie extended totally extraperitoneal approach and TAPP . These are all abbreviations of different types of hernias. Presently in very large hernias TAR is the operation in fashion. Bigger operations resulting in big incisional hernias require defect closure rather then bridging the defect by this type of an operation known as transverse abdomonis release (TAR). One can use a very large mesh 30×30 cm to reinforce abdominal wall which has been destroyed by incisional hernias. Patients functional results are superlative. These procedures can be done laparoscopically and has come as a huge advancement &revolution in hernia surgeries .
